Autophobia, the fear of being alone. Jared McTavish was rarely by himself, usually being chased by girls and what not. Ever since eight grade, Jerry had one girl on his phone while another was on the coach, which was the way he liked it. He was the typical jock, and with sports came girls; loads of girls.
Today, however, he sat against the biggest willow tree in English Landing park totally alone. An eerie silence hung over the park and the only noises were coming from the birds high above. Every now and then, a few children rode past him on bikes, talking and laughing with each other, but their young voices quickly faded out. Jared certainly wasn’t laughing right now. He had just broken up with his girlfriend Holly McBride. A two month fling was a big deal for Jared, as he usually broke up with girls within two weeks. “Get In, Feel Around, Get Out .. “ He often said to his friends when they asked for advise.
Although he had recently ended his relationship, he was more than egger to find somebody else to hang with. He liked older women but, if the circumstances were right, he would go for a younger girl. Blonds were his favorite, although brunets did just as well. Who knows, maybe somebody would turn up today.

"JARED!" An enthusiastic voice rang out, coming from somewhere near the river. Samantha ran up the concrete ramp that was made in the side of the hill, extending into the Missouri river. She'd been sitting at the bottom, feet in the water, when she decided to leave and talk a walk around. It was a fairly boring day, nothing was going on. Boring, boring, boring.
She'd seen Jared show up earlier, but hadn't the interest to talk to him. For a little while, she just wanted to sit alone, thinking about the things going on in her life. There was a lot to think about, but nothing she wanted to share with anyone. Her suspicions about Gomory had to be true, but who would share her opinion? She doubted that, despite people's dislike of the other girl, anyone would be suspicious of her. She wasn't capable of that... was she?
Anyway, she was tired of being alone. She wanted to have some fun, so why not with Jared? He was a pretty nice guy, despite his reputation. She wasn't like Damion and Gomory, or the various people they hung around. She at least attempted to get along with everyone. It wasn't like he'd ever done anything to offend her.
"Hey," she said, jogging up to him. Her hair fell around her shoulders in soft ringlets. She wore a grey shirt beneath a black jacket that read "Led Zeppelin" on the front, with a list of tour dates from the 1970's on the back.

Jared nearly jumped in surprise when the girl called to him. He had not anticipated a junior come practically out of nowhere. He did a double take at her and said, ” Oh Hey … “ Then it occurred to him that he didn’t know her name. He really should have, she was a very beautiful girl.
“Led Zeppelin?” He asked her looking at her shirt, covered by a jet black jacket. “I never really liked them. But the Beatles, now that’s a good band.” He said, not standing up. “How’re you doing?

"I would have to disagree with you. While individually, members like John Lennon are great, as a whole they are not my favorite band. Either way, Led Zeppelin totally kicks The Beatles' ass." She grinned widely, hands planted firmly on her hips.
"I'm doing good," she responded, flipping a strand of hair out of her face. "The day's been quite boring, but maybe that's because it's April. Nothing good ever happens in April."

Jared smiled at her as she sat down. “Well, you would know more about music than I would. Ya know … I’m into sports and stuff.” He said, already full aware that she knew exactly who he was and what he did.
Jared jerked his head towards the sun, signaling for her to sit down. It was his first sign of flirting, a natural instinct. Her next action would show him exactly how she felt about him. How could she not like him? “Except April Fools” He said with a cruel smile.

Samantha sat down, a grin still firmly planted on her face. "Well, athlete or not, music is still a vital part of existence in my opinion. Surely you fancy some band? Or perhaps a rapper, if you're not into rock. I myself enjoy classic metal, like Black Sabbath. Ozzy is my favorite artist, nobody can beat him. He is the all-time Prince of Darkness." She laughed, crossing her legs Indian style.
"And April Fools is a horrible holiday in my opinion. Sure, it's fun when you're in the 8th grade, but I've found that it is true torture for those who have cruel pranks pulled on them. Though I wouldn't put it past you to pull something on somebody. But perhaps I think a little too much of humankind to expect them to ever grow out of pranks."

Gomory was walking listening to her ipod when she saw Rizzo and Jared takling. "Tsk tsk. What a whore." Gomory said to herself. "Poor poor Damion." She smiled and ran her hand through her hair.
She looked down at her dog and leaned down to pet it. "You'll never be a whore will you Zoe. No you wont. Because you're a pretty little girl" she said to the dog in baby talk, but also in a whisper. She kept her eye on the other two.

Jared couldn’t help but laugh. “A vital part of existence?” He joked. Yeah, music was cool but it wasn’t as nearly as important as sports, everybody knew that. The electric thrill you get while you’re out on the field, guys trying their hardest to kill you. Amazing isn’t the word.
“Music is one thing, but I think sports are a … what did you say … vital part of existence?” He joked, flirting with her. He could sense the smile on her face without even looking at her. He slowly moved a strand of hair away from her eyes and said, “And what do you mean you wouldn't put it past me to pull something on somebody?”

"Sports... I can't say that I've ever enjoyed sports. I played soccer and softball when I was little, and I've done dance. Okay, I will admit, I do enjoy dance lessons, but really... I don't like sports. I'm an artist myself. Painting is my life, and music is my muse. Though if I listen to really sad songs, I usually paint something awfully morbid. So I try to stay away from unhappy music when painting."
She blinked when he pushed away a strand of her hair, a little confused. Was he flirting? She wasn't sure, as Rizzo had never been good at detecting if someone was flirting with her. So she ignored it. If he was, she'd figure it out later. "I just wouldn't put it past you," she said to him, "to pull a prank on somebody on April Fools Day. Don't lie and say you've never done it."
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted an unwanted guest. The muscles in her jaw tightened, but she ignored Gomory. If Satan decided to come and play, she could do so. But that didn't mean she had to say anything to her.

Jared was surprised, but not unhappy. She hadn’t reacted to his attempt a flirting, but she hadn’t pushed him away either. That was a start. “Well, my cousin considers dance a sport. I guess, loosely, it could be.” He said inventing a reason to go out with her. Every girl that he had been with did some sort of sport. Was he trying to talk himself into going out with her?
“Your right,” He began. “I love April fools day. I’ve pulling a few pranks in my day … still got a few left up my sleeve.” He said with a laugh. He kept eye contact with Sam, even though she looked away at someone in the distance. But he didn’t care. Although he didn’t want to admit it, he was happy right here, right now, with her.

Gomory laughed to herself and smiled. She walked over to Rizzo and hit her on the back. "SO RIZZO! Do you know if Daim has my homework I let him use, because his phone is turned off." She laughed. "Maybe you would know." She was aiming to piss off this girl and it was going to work one way or another.

Now every muscle in Rizzo's body hardened as Gomory made her appearence. My god, you can't leave me alone, can you? Just ruin my day, you whore. But despite what she was thinking inside, she didn't want to make a bad impression on Jared. So she smiled sweetly up at Damion's friend. "No, I wouldn't know if he still has your homework," her voice was too sweet, hiding the maliciousness beneath that was so unbecoming of her, "but perhaps you should drive over to his house and find out. You're over there enough as it is. And anyway, even if he isn't home, I'm sure he wouldn't mind you sneaking around his bedroom. You probably know it inside and out."

Gomory laughed. "You should too. I mean you ARE his girlfriend!" She smiled at Jared. "Gomory. Senior. I believe you made a nasty comment about me behind my back one time." She stuck out her hand.

So Samantha had spine after all. Perhaps she was his type. The girl who had tried to embarrass her was Gomory Rose, the fat, town slut. Jared hated her for what she tried to do to Sam. She wanted to cause Sam pain, to torture her. She was not getting away with this.
“Fuck off you whore.” He said making a rude hand gesture. “Should you be in somebody’s pants? Or maybe you can’t fit?” He said nastily.

Rizzo had to control herself, for if she did not, she surely would have burst out laughing. “Should you be in somebody’s pants? Or maybe you can’t fit?” It was just too great. "I'll see you later, Gomory." She stood and dusted off a bit of dirt that had stuck to her pants. "Care to join me for a walk around the park, Jared? I can see we're not going to be left alone here, and well, I'm allergic to dogs." She looked down at Gomory's dog, which was much too cute for the slut that owned her. But it was true, she was allergic to dogs; though she had taken her medicine that morning, the other two had no way of knowing that.

Gomory smirked. "Well, aside from your childish remark. I shall be on my way." She turned aruond to leave. "I'll tell Daim you said Hi. Alright Samantha?"
She laughed to herself as she walked off. Oh the fun she would have telling Daim this.

Jared couldn’t help smiling. “Sure.” He said standing up and beginning to walk away from the Gomory. “You said you were allergic to dogs right?” He asked setting up his joke. “You must be allergic to that bitch too.”

"If only," she muttered beneath her breath, crossing her arms as she walked further and further away from Gomory. "But I am allergic to dogs. That's about it, too, strangely enough. I get all puffy eyed and sniffly when I haven't taken my meds, but in general I don't particularly like to be around them."

Jared walked along with Sam, looking into her eyes. This couldn`t be happening! He could not be falling for this girl; this unpopular girl. Could he? Finally, he realized that he had to ask, " So ... do you have a boyfriend?"

"Huh?" She was caught off guard by his question. It was sort of unexpected, as she'd been talking about her allergies to dogs only a moment before. She found it quite random, actually. "Boyfriend? Oh yes, I do. His name is Damion Schmidt, he's a senior. Perhaps you know him?"
Indeed, Rizzo had never been one to pick up on guys when they were hitting on her. She was completely oblivious, innocent to the whole thing. Quite a few times, when she was out with her best friend, Alek, Rizzo's Russian friend would point out that, "He was totally hitting on you!" Of course, Rizzo would deny the whole thing completely. Why would any guy flirt with her?
